The Adelaide Hills start just up the South Eastern Freeway, with Crafers, Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater the first towns past the tollgate. Stirling is roughly 30 km from our Albert Park depot and about 35 km from Seaford Meadows.
Hills houses are different from the plains. Plenty are older timber or stone homes on steep blocks, some are on tank water, and many have no mains gas. The tank in our photo is a Rheem Stellar 250 we fitted in Aldgate, against a corrugated iron wall. We have also fitted Sanden heat pumps in Bridgewater.

Choosing hot water for a hills home
The hills are cooler and wetter than the plains, and that changes the maths. Solar water heating works less well under tall trees and winter cloud. Heat pumps are popular because they do not need gas, but the model matters in cold weather, so pick one made for it.
If your house runs on rainwater, sediment can build up in a storage tank faster. Flushing it and checking the anode helps it last longer.

Does solar hot water work in the hills?
It can, but trees and winter cloud cut its output. A heat pump is often the more reliable choice here.
